Projects & File Types

·

Vertexix reads and writes three kinds of file: its own project and document files, 3D meshes, and images. This page lists what each one is and where it comes from.

Projects

File > Save Project... writes your whole working session to a single .vxp file: the Loaded Mesh and the Generated Mesh, UV spaces and bakes, the rig, strokes and a curated set of settings. Open Project... reads one back. Save Project is available once a mesh is loaded.

A .vxp also opens through drag-and-drop or the File menu’s Recent list, which remembers recently opened files. Voxel scenes keep their own list under Recent Voxel Scenes; picking one switches to Voxel mode and loads it.

The Vertexix document types (.vxp, .vxs, .vxv, .vxo) open the same way as a mesh — through drag-and-drop or Recent — and switch to the matching mode.

Meshes

Mesh import is broad: FBX, glTF/GLB, OBJ, Collada, USD (.usd, .usda, .usdc, .usdz), Alembic (.abc) and many more formats. A .ply that contains only points is reconstructed into a surface — see Point Cloud Scans. What USD and Alembic files bring with them is on USD and Alembic Files.

Meshes export as OBJ, PLY, FBX, GLB, glTF, Collada, STL, 3MF and USD, depending on your edition — see Formats & Edition Availability.

Images

Images can be saved as PNG, JPEG, BMP, WebP, JPEG XL, OpenEXR, Targa, IFF or TIFF. OpenEXR export needs Vertexix or Vertexix Ultra — see Editions Compared. JPEG XL is in every edition.

Material images can be opened from PNG, JPEG, BMP, Targa, GIF, HDR, PSD, WebP and JPEG XL files. A JPEG XL image with more than 8 bits per channel keeps its full depth, like a 16-bit PNG.
