Set Mesh Size

·

The Set Mesh Size dialog over the viewport, showing the loaded mesh's current size, the X, Y and Z New size fields with the link button, the scale factor, and the Resize and Cancel buttons
Set Mesh Size: type the dimensions the loaded mesh should have.

Set Mesh Size resizes the Loaded Mesh to dimensions you type in. Use it when a model has come in at the wrong scale — or with one axis in the wrong unit.

Opening the dialog

Choose Edit > Set Mesh Size.... The item is greyed out when no model is loaded, and once a topology has been created: resize before creating a topology, or Revert Mesh first.

Controls

ControlWhat it does
Current sizeThe loaded mesh's bounding box, X x Y x Z, in the app's measurement unit. No mesh format this app reads records a unit, so this is whatever scale the model was authored at.
New size X, Y, ZTyped fields for the target dimensions, in the unit shown beside New size. They start at the current size.
Link button (chain icon)Linked: changing one axis scales the other two by the same factor. Unlinked: each axis is set on its own — for a model that arrived with one axis in the wrong unit. Click to toggle. It starts linked.
Scale factor:The factor that will actually be applied — one number when all three axes match, otherwise one per axis.
ResizeApplies the new size and closes the dialog.
CancelCloses the dialog without changing anything.

With the axes linked, the other two fields update when you finish editing one (press Enter or click away), not on every keystroke. They keep the model's proportions: linked means one factor, not three equal numbers.

A mesh that is flat on at least one axis — a plane, a single quad — has no size to scale from, so the fields and Resize are disabled and the dialog says so.

What it changes

Only the Loaded Mesh is resized, in place, about the world origin. UVs, materials and textures are unaffected. The resize can be non-uniform, and the mesh's normals are corrected for it so the shading still matches the shape. A rig, if the model has one, is scaled with the mesh.

Afterwards every view is reframed on the resized model, the ground grid is rebuilt (its automatic spacing comes from the mesh's bounds), and the status bar reports Resized the loaded mesh.

Units

Sizes are shown and typed in the app's measurement unit, which Set Mesh Size shares with Voxel mode's dimension fields and the grid. One model unit is treated as one metre; the measurement unit only changes how that is displayed. The unit is chosen in:

  • Edit > Interface Settings — Measurement: picks Metric (mm, cm, m, km) or English (in, ft, mi).
  • The Grid dialog — Unit system and Default unit.

Setting a model to its real dimensions here means those dimension fields and the grid read in real sizes for it.
