Image Based Lighting

·

Loads a .hdr equirectangular environment map for image-based lighting and a skybox background. It only takes effect while PBR Preview is on; without one loaded, a flat ambient term stands in instead.

Loading an environment

Load HDR Environment… opens a file picker for a .hdr file, with a Default folder field and Browse button to set where that picker starts. Bringing your own HDR is gated to Regular and up — Free and Light don't get the button. This gate applies only to custom environments: a built-in HDR that ships with the app is available regardless of edition.

Controls

ControlRangeDefault
Intensity0–51.0
Rotation0–360°0°
Skybox Exposure0.05–3.01.0
Skybox Blur0–10.0
Sky Visibility0–11.0
Fallback Ambient0–10.15

Intensity scales how much the environment lights the model, both diffuse response and reflections. Rotation turns the environment — and the light it casts — around the up axis.

The sky-only controls

Skybox Exposure, Skybox Blur and Sky Visibility are deliberately restricted to only the visible sky rendering — none of them ever changes how the environment lights or reflects on the model itself. Skybox Exposure brightens or dims just the visible sky (useful when a loaded HDR looks washed out); Skybox Blur blurs only what's drawn behind the model, leaving reflections sharp; Sky Visibility fades the sky toward the plain Viewport Background color, down to fully hidden at 0, without changing how the model is lit.

Fallback Ambient is the separate control that only matters with no environment loaded at all — raise it if surfaces facing away from the Directional Light look too dark or flat black.
