Interface Tab
The Interface tab is the second tab of the Settings window. Open it with Edit > Interface Settings, or by default Alt+F10. It decides how the app looks and behaves: language, layout, scale, colors and the viewport background. Its six accordions are Interface settings, Interface colors, Interface elements, Viewport colors, Viewport Background and Miscellaneous Settings; only one is open at a time.
Interface settings
A two-column accordion, grouped under the headings below.
General
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Language: | The interface language. Each language is listed by its own name, so you can find yours whatever the app is currently showing. |
| Sidebar display: | Left side or Right side of the window. |
| Measurement: | Metric (mm, cm, m, km) or English (in, ft, mi): which units Voxel mode's Numeric window offers. The unit itself is picked there; sizes are stored in metres either way. |
| View gizmo: | Axis ball, which snaps to the six straight-on views, or Orientation cube, which can be tumbled freely. Right-clicking the gizmo in the 3D view swaps them too. |
| Numerical sliders: | How numbers are changed everywhere in the app. Default: sliders and −/+ buttons. Blender Style: drag the field, click it to type. 3D Max style: drag the arrows button up or down. Lightwave3D style: drag the <> button left or right. Saved as soon as you change it. |
| Grid snap: | What drawing, resizing and moving in the views snap to. None: nowhere. Standard: a tenth of the grid on screen, so zooming in snaps finer. Fine: a few times finer than Standard. Fixed: the size in the field below it, in your measurement unit. |
Docking
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Presets: | Applies a color theme. Your own presets are listed first, then the built-in ones. The dropdown shows which theme is applied. |
| Save (beside Presets) | Saves the current colors as your own preset, beside the application. The name prompt starts filled in with the applied theme's name, so updating it is Save then Enter; type a new name to save a separate preset. Not available in Free. |
| Retopology Dock Layout:, Painting Dock Layout:, Sculpting Dock Layout:, Voxel Dock Layout:, Quad-Patcher Dock Layout: | A saved dock layout to apply automatically for each mode — at startup for Retopology, and whenever you switch to that mode (the Quad-Patcher one whenever the Quad-Patcher is opened). Picking one for the mode you are in applies it straight away. (None) applies nothing. See Windows & Dock Layouts. |
Accordions
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Accordion arrow: | Puts the open/close arrow at the Far left or Far right of every accordion bar. |
| Accordion Title Position: | Left, Center or Right: where the title sits on the bar, in the sidebar and the settings windows alike. |
| Alternate Accordion Arrows: | Closed accordions show a sideways bracket pointing at the title instead of a downward chevron, and open ones point the chevron down at their content instead of up. |
Scale
| Control | What it does | Range |
|---|---|---|
| UI scale: | Auto-detect scales from the monitor's pixel resolution, which can't be exact for every display. Switch to Manual and drag the slider until it looks right. | 0.50×–3.00× |
| View gizmo size: | Size of the orientation gizmo in the top-right corner of the 3D view. | 0.50×–2.50× |
| Gizmo label size: | Font size of the X, Y and Z letters on the gizmo. | 6–24 px |
| Icon bar size (2K):, Icon bar size (4K+): | Size of the icon toolbar on 2K-and-lower and on 4K-and-higher monitors, as a percentage of its default size, in 5% steps. Moving the window to another monitor switches between them. | 25–200% |
Buttons
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Button style: | Text only, Icons only or Text and Icons. |
| Text align: | Left, Center or Right alignment of button labels. |
| Show Dropdowns as Buttons | Draws every dropdown like a button, in the button colors of the current theme. |
Performance
| Control | What it does | Range |
|---|---|---|
| VSync Enabled | Whether VSync is on when the app starts. On: no tearing, frame rate capped to the monitor. Off: uncapped, useful for judging performance. View > VSync toggles it for the current session. | |
| Anti-aliasing Enabled | Whether anti-aliasing is on when the app starts, in both OpenGL View and PBR View. View > Anti-aliasing toggles it for the session. | |
| GPU painting | Paint strokes are drawn on the graphics card instead of the CPU, keeping the brush responsive on large meshes and high-resolution textures. Anything the GPU path does not cover yet paints on the CPU automatically, and the status bar says so. Turn it off if your graphics driver misbehaves; it takes effect at the next stroke. | |
| Voxel mesh stands in while a view moves | While a view is orbited or panned in Voxel mode, shows the meshed preview instead of the exact raymarched one, which is much cheaper to redraw. Only the moving view is affected, and it snaps sharp when you stop. The Voxel palette has the same switch. | |
| 1/2 resolution on mesh orbit | While a view is orbited, panned or zoomed, draws it at half size on each axis and redraws it sharp a moment after the camera stops. Helps whatever is limited by pixels — above all Voxel mode's preview and PBR shading on a large window — not a mesh limited by its triangle count. Not used in Paint mode. | |
| 1/4 resolution on mesh orbit | The same at a quarter of the size on each axis, for when half is not fast enough. Only one of the two can be on. | |
| 1/2 resolution always | Always draws the scene at half size, moving or not, for a machine that cannot hold the frame rate. The interface stays at full size. Not used in Paint mode. | |
| Paint update rate: | How often the Paint Palette brush applies while you drag, independently of the viewport's frame rate. Lower values save CPU work per stroke; 20–30 Hz is usually indistinguishable from uncapped. | 5–60 Hz |
| Rotation inertia: | How long the view keeps coasting after you release a rotate drag. 0 stops it dead. Holding Ctrl+Shift while rotating and releasing keeps it spinning at a constant speed until you rotate again, at any setting. | 0–100% |
Startup display defaults
Whether each of these starts on when the app loads: Enable OpenGL smoothing by default, Show Grid, Wire Frame Enabled, UV Map Enabled, Normal Map Enabled and Enable Realtime Subdividing by default. They apply again after File > New, opening a project (including the autosave restored after a crash) and Load Mesh's Reset all settings to default, as do the other defaults you set in Settings (remesh, UV, bake and subdivision). While you work, the icon column and their keys (G for the grid) turn each one on and off. Two effects are switched here too:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ghost effect while a mesh loads | Shows a model that is finishing loading as a translucent, glowing phantom with embers rising off it. Costs one extra pass over the mesh for about two seconds per load. |
| Effect when Generated Mesh Appears | Reveals new topology from the ground up: the wireframe climbs from the model's lowest point to its highest, then the shaded surface fills in behind it. |
Interface colors
The colors of the sidebar, accordions and buttons: Sidebar Background, Sidebar Text, the open and closed Accordion Bar Text and Accordion Bar Background colors, Accordion Background Color, Button Color, Button Text Color, Action Button Color and Action Text Color (the buttons that move the pipeline forward, such as Create New Topology, Create UV Map and Transfer Texture), and the Toggle Button Hover, Active and Border colors. Shaded Button gives buttons a 3D gradient look (off is flat), and Outline Buttons draws every button's border in Outline Button Color. Status: Loaded Mesh and Status: Generated Mesh color the menu bar status message depending on which mesh you are viewing.
Interface elements
Colors of radio buttons, checkboxes, sliders and text entry fields: Widget background, Widget selected, Widget Color and Widget Text Color.
Viewport colors
Colors the 3D view draws: Solid Mesh color, Wireframe color, Sculpt Mask color, Selected polygon color, Voxel Selection Color, Lasso color, Topology Color and Grid Origin. Under Load and reveal effects, Ghost & Ember Color and Generated Mesh effect color color the two effects above; each is greyed out while its effect is turned off in Interface settings.
In Free, the Presets dropdown still applies the built-in themes, but editing individual colors in Interface colors, Interface elements, Viewport colors and the Viewport Background color controls, and saving your own preset, need Light or higher. The two effect colors are available in every edition.
Viewport Background
What sits behind the model: a flat Background Color, or with Use Gradient a gradient through Zenith, Horizon +, Horizon - and Nadir that is either fixed on screen or follows the camera like a sky. Gradients can be saved and loaded as presets, and a Static Background Image can replace both. The gradient and the static image cannot be on at once. Every control is described in Viewport Background & Horizon Presets.
Miscellaneous Settings
Under UV Grid, choose the image used wherever a UV grid is drawn — the Checker button in the image view and the checker preview on the model.
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Grid dropdown | Lists (built-in checker) first, then every image in the app's UV grid folder, with a preview and its size below. Picking one applies it for this session. |
| Load New Image... | Picks an image from anywhere and copies it into the UV grid folder, so it stays in the list. |
| Make Default | Saves the current grid so it loads on startup. |
| Folder button | Opens the UV grid folder. |
Saving your changes
Changes show as you make them. Save at the bottom of the tab keeps them and closes the window, Revert returns to the last saved state, and Cancel (or Esc) discards them and closes. Numerical sliders: and Make Default are the exceptions — both save the moment you use them.
