Windows & Dock Layouts
Every standalone window in Vertexix is listed on the Window menu, each with a checkmark showing whether it is open right now. Clicking an entry toggles it: it opens the window if it is closed and closes it if it is open. Most windows also have their own button elsewhere (an icon-bar button, a sidebar row), but this menu is the one place that lists them all together.
The Window menu
The windows appear in this order. Voxel Tree and Numeric are listed in every mode, not only in Voxel mode.

Below these, separated by a line, are the dock layout entries described in Saving dock layouts.
Docking windows
Tool windows can be docked. Drag a window by its title bar (or its tab, if it is already docked) and drop targets appear; release over one to dock it. No modifier key is needed. Windows can dock:
- against each other, stacking as tabs or splitting the space between them;
- along the screen edge opposite the sidebar.
They never dock over the 3D view itself or onto the sidebar. The sidebar, the icon toolbar and the orientation gizmo are fixed and cannot be docked, and true modal dialogs never dock.
To undock a window, drag it out by its title bar or tab. A window dragged past the edge of the main Vertexix window becomes its own operating-system window, with a normal title bar, so you can move it to another monitor.
Saving dock layouts
The bottom of the Window menu manages named dock layouts:
- Save Dock Layout... — “Save the current panel arrangement under a name, to reload later or set as a default for Retopology/Painting/Sculpting/Voxel mode in Settings > Interface.” Type a name and click OK (or press Enter).
- Load Dock Layout — a submenu listing every saved layout; click one to apply it. It is greyed out until at least one layout has been saved.
- Update Dock Layout... — overwrites the layout assigned to the mode you are currently in with the arrangement on screen, without asking for a name. It is greyed out when the current mode has no layout assigned; use Save Dock Layout... instead.
To have a layout applied automatically, assign it in Settings > Interface, which has one dropdown per mode: Retopology Dock Layout:, Painting Dock Layout:, Sculpting Dock Layout:, Voxel Dock Layout: and Quad-Patcher Dock Layout:. Each lists your saved layouts plus (None), which means nothing is applied automatically for that mode. Picking a layout for the mode you are in applies it straight away.
The Quad-Patcher's own layout
The Quad-Patcher counts as a mode of its own for docking. While it is open, the Quad-Patcher Dock Layout applies, together with the windows you had open the last time you used it. When you close it, Retopology's layout and windows come back. Switching to another tab while it is open goes straight to that tab's layout. To set one up:
- Open the Quad-Patcher and arrange the windows the way you want them.
- Choose Window > Save Dock Layout... and give the layout a name.
- Pick that name for Quad-Patcher Dock Layout: in Settings > Interface.
After that, Update Dock Layout... used while the Quad-Patcher is open updates the Quad-Patcher's layout, not Retopology's. Loading a layout never opens or closes the Quad-Patcher itself.
Resetting window placement
Window positions, sizes and docking are remembered between sessions in imgui_layout.ini, next
to the program. Delete that file (with Vertexix closed) to put every window back in its default place. See
Resetting.
