Resetting Layout & Settings

·

Vertexix keeps your preferences and your window arrangement in two files next to the program. When a panel has gone missing, a setting has been left somewhere odd, or you just want a clean start, you can reset either one without reinstalling.

Resetting settings

At the bottom of Settings › Settings is Restore Defaults. It resets every setting on all tabs, colours included. Nothing changes until you confirm: press Save to keep the defaults, or Cancel to discard them.

Loading a new model while one is open asks you to confirm first. That dialog has a Reset all settings to default checkbox, which also resets every workflow setting (target quad count, remesh mode, brush values, view toggles and so on) for the next model. Leave it off to keep your current settings.

Settings are stored in settings.cfg next to the executable. Deleting it while Vertexix is closed has the same effect as Restore Defaults; a fresh file is written the next time the app saves its settings.

Resetting the window layout

Where docked windows sit is stored in imgui_layout.ini next to the executable. To put every panel back where it started, close Vertexix, delete that file, and start it again.

If you only want to switch between arrangements, use the dock layout items on the Window menu instead: Save Dock Layout..., Load Dock Layout and Update Dock Layout.... See Windows & Dock Layouts.

Warning

Close Vertexix before deleting either file. The app can write them while it runs, so a file deleted while it is open may simply be written again.
